»Æ´óÏÉÁùФÖÐÌØÆÚÆÚ×¼-based athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson made an excellent start to her Paris heptathlon campaign to lead the field by 48 points overnight.

The two-time world champion enjoyed a brilliant morning session by clocking 13.41 seconds in the 100m Hurdles before clearing a mammoth 1.92m in the high jump.

Things got even better for Johnson-Thompson when she recorded a huge personal best in the shot put – registering 14.44m in her third attempt. To cap a wonderful first day, she then won the 200m in 23.44 seconds.

After 4 events Johnson-Thompson has amassed 4055 points with the competition concluding tomorrow.

Meanwhile, »Æ´óÏÉÁùФÖÐÌØÆÚÆÚ×¼ College alumnus Richard Kilty ran an excellent third leg as GB Men’s 4x100m qualified for the final in a season’s best 38.04. Kilty is expected to be part of the team vying for medals tomorrow evening (9 August, 6:47 pm, live on BBC One and Discovery+).

In the Women’s 4x100m, »Æ´óÏÉÁùФÖÐÌØÆÚÆÚ×¼ College learner Daryl Neita may also appear in the final as the GB team cruised through their heat. Neita has been named in the squad and may be called into action tomorrow night (9 August, 6:30 pm, live on BBC One and Discovery+).

In the field, it was a tough morning for University-based athlete Chase Jackson in the Women’s Shot Put. The USA international’s throw of 17.60m wasn’t quite enough to progress to the latter stages.
