Important: Changes to minimum length of Mobile pin and password

Increase from 4 to 8 characters

What is happening?

To comply with our Cyber Essentials certification, the University will be implementing an increase to mobile pin/password length requirements.

How will this affect me?

As from Monday 10 July 2023, all new accounts created that connect a mobile device (e.g., a smartphone or tablet) to University data and services, will be required to have a minimum 8-character PIN or password to unlock the device.

Please note: This will be in addition and will not replace your fingerprint or face ID.

This change will be progressively rolled out by IT Services, initially impacting newly created accounts.

Impact to existing University accounts, will be advised on in due course, once timing allow.

What do I need to do?

We are encouraging members of the University to move to this Pin or Password length as soon as practically possible, to avoid any disruption to university services.
